Sedentary: (of a person) tending to spend much time seated.
When I looked up “sedentary”, that’s the definition that I found. The thing is, even those of us that like to get out and exercise are often still sedentary. If you add together the time that you spend sitting or lying down in a day, you might be surprised. Try it!
How many hours a day are you sitting at a computer?
How many hours are you sitting in front of the TV or another screen?
How many hours do you sit at work?
How many hours are you sitting in a car?
How much time do you spend sitting to eat?
How many hours are you sleeping?
How many hours are you sitting for other activities?
Add them all up and see how much you’re sitting in a day. It becomes pretty clear that even those that are consistent about exercising (and those that work out at high intensities) or are trying to be outside can still be sedentary. As a culture, we are much more sedentary than we realize.
I invite you to find any little opportunity or excuse to move!
