Colorado Springs Physical Therapy Services: At Great Moves Physical Therapy, we have a broad range of physical therapy services for adults and children to prevent, evaluate, diagnose and treat conditions that may hinder people from living life as fully as they would like. The need for physical therapy may be as a result of injury or disease. But physical therapy can also be used to enhance motion performance.
At Great Moves, you always receive hands-on care from a fully certified physical therapist (PT).
Also, you should know that in Colorado, you can see a physical therapist immediately, without a referral, and we will get you on the fast track to pain-free living.
Let’s next talk about how we help you ‘get better everyday’ and how we are different from other physical therapy clinics in Colorado Springs.

Now that you have a better understanding of what we do at Great Moves, let’s talk about what is physical therapy and how it works.
How Does Physical Therapy Work?
Physical therapy (PT) involves the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of physical, emotional, and psychological conditions (usually those that affect motion and mobility) that may hinder adults and children from living life as fully as they would like.
In Colorado, you can see a physical therapist immediately, without a referral, and we will get you on the fast track to pain-free living.
Some of the conditions that we treat:
- Low back, shoulder, neck, hip, knee and foot pain

- Parkinson’s Disease
- Endurance performance
- Dizziness, vertigo, and balance (Fall prevention program)
- Movement disorders after a stroke
- Incontinence, pelvic pain, pre and post-partum (Women’s health)
- Difficulty walking
- Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
- Joint pain and instability

After receiving a thorough evaluation, we will work with you to create a customized program to meet your specific needs. During your treatment sessions at Great Moves, you will spend the entire time exclusively with your therapist. Your therapist will meet your individual needs using ‘hands on’ therapy, education and exercises to enhance your quality of life.
OK. Great. Now you know a bit about how physical therapy works. The next question you might have is how do I set an appointment and do I need a doctor’s referral?
DID YOU KNOW?: Colorado is a ‘Direct Access’ state.
In the state of Colorado, you can make an appointment with a physical therapist directly, without a physician’s referral. Physical therapists are trained as first providers who are qualified to recognize if a patient presents with signs and symptoms that are outside the scope of physical therapy practice and will make appropriate referrals to other medical providers when needed.
Always contact your insurance company for details. Or better yet, call us at 719-477-6870 to schedule a free consultation and insurance benefit confirmation. We assess your condition during your consultation and determine the best treatment plan for you.
Special Programs at Great Moves
So, yup, we do physical therapy to help people who experience pain of some sort. But that’s not all. We do more than physical therapy – even if you’re not hurt or in pain! We invested in some wonderful programs and technologies to achieve peak performance in sports such as golf, running, etc.
Great Moves is proud to be one of the few providers in the state of Colorado to offer its patients and clients the ability to train and rehab in the Alter-G Anti Gravity treadmill (Alter-G) as a part of our physical therapy services at Great Moves Physical Therapy. This revolutionary piece of equipment allows you to walk, jog, and run at any percentage of your body weight to take the stress off of your joints and eliminate the risk of falling.
Who benefits from the Alter-G treadmill:
- Endurance athletes with overuse injuries
- Endurance athletes without injuries looking to increase their miles
- Lower extremity pre and post-operative patients
- Anyone with difficulties walking
- People with gait dysfunctions after a stroke
- People who want to walk, jog or run without increased stress on joints
Injury recovery reasons to use the Alter-G:
- Allow for protection of healing tissue
- Encourage range of motion
- Earlier weight-bearing activity
- Encourage more rapid return of motor control
VIDEO: Alter-G Treadmill Overview
Are you needing the miles but suffering from joint pain or concerned about the effects of your training on your knees and ankles? The Alter-Gravity treadmill will allow you to increase your mileage while decreasing the stress placed on your joints, and do not worry, you are receiving the same cardiovascular conditioning you would while on the road.
Just look at Adam Goucher, a Colorado Springs native, 10 time National Champion in Cross Country and Track, who added 25-30 extra miles per week while training for the 2006 World Championships on the Alter-G treadmill. That year, he finished 6th at Worlds and had the 3rd fasted 2 mile ever run by an American at the Prefontaine Classic!
Pre and post-operative patients:
If you are scheduled for a lower extremity operation and are limited in your activity due to pain, the Alter-Gravity treadmill will allow you to maintain your strength and cardiovascular endurance while you wait for your surgery.
If you have had surgery and have been placed on a weight bearing restriction of 25 percent or greater, the Alter-Gravity treadmill will allow you to walk normally without any assistive device. This reduces your risk of compensatory injuries and allows you to maintain your normal gait pattern.
We offer FREE half-hour consultations so you can try the Alter-G. Call to set up your trial!

Trigger Point Dry Needling
Trigger Point Dry Needling is a technique utilizing acupuncture-like needles to release trigger points in your muscle.
Trigger points are more commonly referred to as, “knots,” which are tender or painful areas within a muscle. Research has shown that trigger point dry needling is very effective in reducing pain and increasing range of motion.
At Great Moves, we have a licensed trigger point dry needling therapist who will walk you through all of the steps and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Common questions about dry needling:
Is it painful? A majority of our patients say that dry needling is painless, or that the trigger point was more painful than the procedure.
How will I know if it works? Dry needling has an immediate effect on your muscle pain and tightness. Our therapist will assess you after each procedure to maximize the effectiveness
How often is it needed? Most patients are seen 1 to 2 times a week for 3 weeks. Most appointments are ½ hour in length
Does insurance cover dry needling? Dry needling is covered under physical therapy benefits. We will verify your benefits and discuss payment options before treatment to ensure that you are covered.
Please call to set up a FREE half-hour consultation to see if you are a candidate for dry needling therapy.
TRX training is one of our physical therapy services which includes a suspension strap (suspension training) and weighted bar exercise tool (rip training) that helps you build lean muscle, boost your metabolism, tighten your core, and increase endurance.

Rip Training complements suspension training by providing a unique mix of rotation, core stability, control, power, balance, and coordination challenges for all fitness levels.
