Massage therapy restores the mind and body. If you have a musculoskeletal injury, a nagging pain or just need to relax, Great Moves of Colorado Springs offers a massage technique that is perfect for your needs. And it’s a wonderful added service for our physical therapy patients.
Massage is essentially the rubbing and manipulation of the muscles. And actually, rubbing parts of the body that are in pain is a natural response. And it’s a fact that mammals do this, too.
The benefits of massage are both physical and emotional. The rubbing not only soothes sore muscles, but the mind as well. Massaging muscles and soft tissue stimulates nerves, increases blood flow and relieves stress in the muscles.

Usually, massages are done in a private and quiet room with soothing music playing in the background. The patient commonly lies down on a special massage table or in a special massage chair (for seated massage). Our massage therapists, certified by the American Massage Therapy Association, will perform a group of manual techniques consisting of both fixed and moveable pressure.
Benefits of Massage
Nearly every form of physical injury or disorder can benefit from massage therapy to include:
Muscle Soreness
Massage therapy is the first line of defense against muscle soreness, and it is often very effective in treating the problem. Everyone knows a relaxing massage is somewhat of a luxury that provides a wonderfully relaxed feeling of well-being. A therapeutic massage that is targeted at certain problem areas goes well beyond the typical relaxing experience many people think of when considering a massage. Healthcare professionals now recommend massage therapy for a number of health problems including back pain, muscle spasms, stiff joints, atrophied muscles, headaches and stress.
Stress Relief
Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of massage therapy is stress relief. The relief of stress not only feels wonderful, but can also help prevent other physical problems. Research shows that a high percentage of physical problems are stress related and reducing that stress can reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, help concentration and reduce fatigue. These issues are somewhat interrelated, and an individual who is experiencing one is likely affected by others. Even though it is impossible to escape the stress created by the fast pace of our modern world entirely, massage therapy is a valuable tool that can help reduce and manage its effects.
Arthritis
Some other lesser known conditions that benefit from massage therapy are arthritis sufferers who experience less stiffness and pain after a therapeutic massage and pregnant women who have shorter and less painful deliveries. Massage therapy can also help reduce the diastolic blood pressure and stress hormones of patients with high blood pressure.
Medications
Health care professionals continue to learn how massage therapy can help their patients as new information becomes available. Prescription medications can sometimes be reduced or even discontinued due to much safer massage therapy, and the results are often permanent.
